Expert’s Juicy Take: Ashley, The Queen of Advertising TikTok
This week, We have Ashley sharing her expert insights on Best Marketing Campaigns & Brands from Q2. She shares weekly advertising roundups on her TikTok loved by more than 50k followers. If you aren’t following her on TikTok, grab an orange juice and binge watch her content this Sunday. Moving to her Insights for you:
Jaskaran: What’s a campaign from Q2 worth studying for other marketers? And why?\
Ashley: I’d recommend marketers study the Barbie movie campa…KIDDING. I know we’re all tired of hearing about Barbie 😅
One campaign I found really interesting was A Case Against Space from Busch Light and The Martin Agency. Their argument was that we should focus less on space travel and more on caring for the Earth, because of the simple fact that you can’t drink beer in space. Apparently zero gravity isn’t a friend to carbonation.
Why I liked it:
- It fit their brand: Busch Light has branded themselves as the outdoorsy, wilderness-loving, camping companion beer. Of course they’d want to protect the Earth.
- It capitalized on something timely (Earth Month) and something socially/culturally relevant that’s already being talked about (space travel).
- They didn’t take themselves too seriously: Climate change and sustainability marketing plays can often feel really heavy. But they kept it fun and light, just like their beer.
Jaskaran: Can you share the list of brands or creators you are loving on social media?
Ashley: I’ll focus on TikTok since that’s where I spend most of my free time 😅
Brands on TikTok I’m loving:
AARP - They are creating super fun, engaging content for a brand traditionally associated with older generations on an app usually associated with younger generations. And they’re killing it.
Ryanair - They found a great, consistent format for a lot of their videos by personifying the plane with the eyes and mouth green screen effect. They do their own spin on trends and never shy away from the things a lot of people complain or criticize them about. They lean HARD into the cheap airline persona.
Small businesses I’m loving on TikTok:
@LilHelperTikTok - Their bio says “kind capitalism” and that couldn’t be more accurate. They’re obviously trying to sell their product but they do it with such respect and care. They often respond to comments of personal situations with a video explaining exactly how their products can help that individual.
@Lionlatch - The creator of the product uses her videos to show how she uses the product in her daily life, making the videos feel very personal and relatable. She also gives specific examples of other professions and life scenarios where the product can come in handy.
Thanks to Ashley for providing us with her marketing Insights. For Readers: I am planning to have more experts share their insights within the newsletter. I don’t plan to make those insights paid but it takes time and effort to organise these collaborations. If you liked this, feel free to refer this newsletter or upgrade to support the work.
