Brand is your (legal) performance enhancer. But…
Stakeholders often expect brand-building to follow a quick, linear path. In their view, brand and creative work should deliver immediate spikes in conversion. This misunderstanding has long frustrated brand marketers, who may see the value of their efforts as self-evident.
Sometimes, there’s barely enough time for a brand campaign to shift market share or earn a place on the balance sheet, yet the CMO is dismissed, and the marketing budget is slashed.
According to The Board-Brand Rift, a report by the Financial Times and IPA, more than half of business leaders rate their understanding of brand-building as “average” or “poor.” If CEOs and CFOs aren’t investing in their brands, maybe that’s on us. They often empathize with our ideas and collective efforts to grow a brand. But empathy isn’t enough. You need the right language and data to market marketing and secure the long-term spending + patience.
Research by Thomas Barta and Patrick Barwise, in which they looked at over 8600 leaders to evaluate behaviours among senior marketing professionals, found that being able to “mobilise your colleagues” is one of the top three drivers of both personal career success and high business performance. Pretty much no athlete wins in silo, and that’s the same for brands. Fit brands need a team to rally around them — both internally and externally.
That means making sure your team, across all marketing subfunctions, is set up to succeed. It means knowing how to use tools like brand tracking, insight platforms, and attribution models as part of your system. And it means ensuring your key stakeholders are working from the same marketing playbook you are.
Well, that’s pretty much the reason for the existence of Tracksuit. And why they’ve dropped their new brand playbook. Track the Field gives B2C brands the playbook they need to advocate for brand and ensure they see ROI on their investment.
